How to export STL files with 3Shape TRIOS

3Shape TRIOS STL Export Setup

Before You Begin:

  • Your 3Shape TRIOS dongle has to have the TRIOS Scan Export (STL) added.
  • TRIOS Scan Export (STL) is a free add-on on your dongle.  To confirm if you have this free add-on, contact your authorized 3Shape TRIOS reseller.

Steps to Setup STL Output on TRIOS POD:

Step1- On the desktop of the unit that the POD is connected to, create a new folder that is named: STL Export.

  • Open the folder and create two subfolders and name them: Incoming and Outgoing
  • Launch the TRIOS software. Go to Configure > Lab Connections.

Step 2- Launch the TRIOS software. Go to Configure > Lab Connections.

  • Choose FTPin the drop-down for External Connection Method.

Step 3- Select Add New Direct Connect Lab.

  • Fill in the Lab name: STL Export.
  • Choose the folder path – make sure that the STL Export folder that was created on the desktop in the previous step is selected.
  • Username and password for this are not necessary.

Step 4- Test the Connection by clicking on Test settings.

  • Should say that the direct connect settings are correct.

Step 5- When you return to the list of Lab Connections, you should now have an STL Export as a connected lab.

Step 6- Next time that a case is created, you will want to make sure to choose STL Export lab when setting up the order.

Step 7- When the case is finished, and images have been post-processed. You will see the prompt for the TRIOS Scan Export (STL):

  • Click on TRIOS Scan Export (STL)
  • Choose the STL Exportfolder on the desktop and Save.

Step 8- This will export your case to the STL Export location on the desktop. You will see the Order # – open that up.

  • There will be 3 STL Files and also a 3ox File. These files can then be sent to a lab via email or flash drive.
  • Rename file to the correct patient to keep track of scan.

Steps to Setup STL Output on TRIOS CART:

Step 1- Go to Configure tab on Home screen and click into System > Open Explorer.

Step 2- Go to C Drive and create a new folder named: STL Export.

Step 3- Open the folder and create two subfolders.

  • Name them: Incoming and Outgoing. 

Step 4-  Go back to Configure page.

Step 5- Select Add new Direct Connect Lab.

  • Fill in the Lab name: STL Export.
  • Choose the folder path – make sure that the STL Exportfolder that was created on the desktop in the previous step is selected.
  • Username and password for this are not necessary.

Step 6- Test the Connection by clicking on Test settings

  • Should say that the direct connect settings are correct.

Step 7- When you return to the list of Lab Connections, you should now have a STL Export as a connected lab.

Step 8- Next time that a case is created, you will want to make sure to choose STL Export lab when setting up the order.

Step 9- At the back of the cart there is a USB port. This can be used to copy the case.

Step 10- When case is finished and its ready to be sent. You will see Export to PlanMill. Browse to the location where it needs to be saved.
